Good Things Come To Those Who Wait

roofbeforeroof duringroof after

We live in a world overcome by professional ADD. We’ve heard it called the “Something Shiny Syndrome.” You know how it is: hyper focus on something and then, whoosh, a new challenge hits your in-box, and you’re off in that direction!

At STEALTH, we experience that in so many ways: urgent needs for RFP responses; calls from the field seeking last minute assistance; colleagues grabbing a quick meeting with one another to troubleshoot an opportunity.

But, we also experience another universe – one in which time seems to stand still. In this world, projects wind through a mysterious world of stops and starts. We get it, we’re used to it.

It is always gratifying to see one of those long-ago jobs finally come to fruition. We had just that happen this week on the West Coast, with a project we originally quoted in 2010. A few years later, we got the green light. This rooftop job shipped September 30, and the photos above show how it looked – before, during and after.

We are so pleased to see any project come to fruition. And we don’t mind long cycles. In fact, we’re proud to have so much longevity in this business, that customers can feel confident we’ll be here when they finally get the go-ahead. But for those customers who are struggling to get to “yes” through their own internal and external systems, we offer a few tips:

– Get as many details up front as possible, so that our ultimate bid reflects your reality. Often jobs languish for months due to a lack of specificity. Clarifying everything up front saves time and money.

– Pre-plan who needs to say “yes” to your project, and work directly with them. Sometimes that’s corporate officers; sometimes it’s zoning boards. Figure out your spheres of influence, and you can fast track your project.

– Understand that material costs evolve over time. If your bid is more than six months old, check to see how accurate the numbers remain. Thinking ahead about those details can avoid a hurry-up-and-wait situation later.

The brick coax cover measures 120’ tall, 12” wide, and 6” deep. We’re quite proud of how nicely it blends in with the existing building!

The Charleston Area Considers Two New Cell Towers

soccerIt’s not too often that we hear about towers being installed in our own backyard…or so we thought. For Charleston, this month has been a busy one for zoning folks on both ends of town. James Island and Mt. Pleasant are in the process of reviewing their options for potential cell towers.

The James Island Soccer Club wants to lease 3,600 feet of their 16-acre plot to four carriers for a 180-foot tower. Not only would this improve connectivity, but it would also more than quadruple revenue for field maintenance.

Meanwhile, zoning officials in Mt. Pleasant are discussing the possibility of building a 130-foot tower at the Rivertowne Country Club. The area where the tower would be located is pretty heavily wooded, meaning that it would be largely hidden.

While both sites are still in the development phases, we are sure about one thing: we’d love the chance to conceal them!

Stlth StAnnes-25Isn’t this church tower in Santa Ana, California beautiful?! It is certainly a shame that those antennas are currently mounted to the side of that steeple. Thankfully, that’s about to change! STEALTH recently designed and fabricated four window concealments with a stained glass appearance that will soon be installed in the steeple’s arches. This project was a great experience for all of us, as our team got to design this one completely from scratch. We would show you how amazing the final result is, but we don’t want to ruin the surprise! Check back very soon for some completed site photos. We know you’ll be as impressed as we are!

FairfieldVerizon has proposed to install two camouflaged cell towers in Seaside, CA but is facing opposition from residents who argue that their property values will decrease. Despite the fact that the antennas would be concealed inside new steeples, neighbors are concerned about the appearance and noise associated with the cell tower equipment. If the Planning Commission denies the proposal, Verizon plans to appeal to the City Council.

Purdue Stadium Gets Wireless Upgrade

PurdueWith football season in full swing, we’re super excited about all of the stadium projects we have in the works. As big football fans ourselves (GO BUFFS!), we know just how frustrating it can be for fans when their signal gets bogged down, and they are no longer able to share the moment with their family and friends all across the country.

Purdue is one of many universities across the country that has faced this problem in the past. During game days, fans have overwhelmed local cell towers, at times making communication impossible. Thankfully, AT&T has recently boosted their wireless coverage at Ross-Ade Stadium, which will give fans a much better experience on game days.

“Fans increasingly want to share memories with friends and family through social media, check stats and stay in touch during the game,” said Purdue senior associate athletics director Tom Schott. “We’re thrilled to add to the fan experience with this investment by AT&T.”

The best part? You won’t even SEE the new antennas, thanks to yours truly! STEALTH designed and fabricated these great vomitory (section marker) boxes. You’ll have to let us know if you spot them at the next game! Go Boilermakers!

Stealth Reveille church

Reveille Church – Richmond, VA

Located just blocks from Richmond’s Museum District and the James River, Reveille United Methodist Church is situated in a beautiful part of town. It is certainly not the type of area where you see cell towers popping up all over the place. However, there’s a growing need for coverage and we like to get creative with the placement of wireless equipment. After all, if every concealment looked the same, we’d probably get bored! Instead, we pride ourselves on leaving communities more beautiful than we found them and Reveille Church is a great example of that. The eight columns on the steeple measure approximately 6’ tall x 3’ wide and still look amazing, even after 15 years after being installed!

Cell Towers Don’t Pose Health Threat

It is no surprise that many people are concerned about the potential dangers of cell towers close to their homes. Until recently, very little research has been done in this arena. Thankfully, that seems to be changing…and for the better!

A study by Pinnacle Wireless was recently conducted in response to a petition created by New Jersey residents wanting to know the amount of radiation emanating from local cell phone antennas.

“Regarding the operation frequencies and in the process of conducting tests, we were able to address the primary concerns regarding cell antennas. Everyone is safe. In fact, you’re more than safe. The maximum permissible exposure levels show that you can feel comfortable if you live right across the street or down the block,” said Corey Vaughan, director of business development at Pinnacle Wireless.

In other words, you’re perfectly safe, and we couldn’t be happier to know that!

Bristol--First-Congregational-ChurchThe First Congregational Church in beautiful Bristol, CT has been around in some capacity since 1747. Bristol is one of the largest cities in the state, and prides itself on its highly rated school system, 700+ acres of parks, and their ability to attract many reputable businesses. Naturally, it’s not the type of place where you would expect to see cell phone towers on the horizon. However, there’s a definite need for cell phone coverage and we like to get creative with our concealments. The First Congregational Church is a great example of that! We provided faux column boxes on this steeple that measure approximately 7’ tall x 2’ wide. Despite the fact they were installed over 10 years ago, they still look amazing!

From Parkside Gets Custom Cell Tower with School Colors.

custom concealmentMost schools don’t allow cellphone use during class, but in the case of an emergency, having coverage is crucial, and a day-to-day convenience. Parkside High School wanted to improve their wireless signal, but they didn’t want to distract students or visitors from the school. STEALTH created a 105 foot custom concealment to improve wireless signal without distracting from students’ educations.

“The design gives the marquee tower a dual purpose and [STEALTH®’s custom concealment] sets it apart from bland towers around other schools,” said Tracy Sahler, school district spokeswoman.

Here’s what the local paper, Delmarvanow had to say about our custom concealment: “The Rams get billboard-style visibility. The company threw in signage for aesthetics, branding the school name and mascot in green onto huge, three-directional white tower panels.”

Here’s what Tracy Sahler, school district spokeswoman had to say: “Due to the tower’s highly visible location, the tower was designed by the vendor to be aesthetically pleasing, with branded signage for Parkside High School at no cost to the school or school system …” “Wicomico schools also benefits from having improved cellphone reception on the school property – a safety and security plus.”636079989355754480-parkside-tower

The concealment is a win-win for everyone! The school district gets additional funds, the school gets a point of school pride, students are safer in case of an emergency, and cellphone users in the area have better signal.
